Preparing to Move

Today I spent the day packing for Honduras... well packing up my apartment to move out in a couple weeks.  With each item I place in a bin for long term storage, my mission becomes more real to me.  With each full bin, I'm that much closer to physically being ready to move.

I have reflected a lot today about that things that I consider necessities in life, things that I absolutely need.  I have created a list of items that I need to take, and I am trying to limit myself to a suitcase and a carry-on.  I realize that no number of items in your life can truly make you happy.  It is about how you use the gifts you are given to share with others.  I am looking forward to setting aside the value of material possessions and learning to share the love of God with others.  I cannot wait to start my mission!

A couple of necessities for my mission that are still out of reach for financially are my International Health Insurance and my initial flight to Honduras.  Please consider donating to my mission by following the link below.

Thanks in advance for your support! God Bless!

A little more about me

I am a math teacher who loves mission work.  For many years now I have been discerning a long term mission.  I have thought about living in another country and doing missionary work for almost 5 years now.  One thing that has always held me back is that I didn't want to stop teaching.  I find so much joy in being able to help others learn not only the material but how to be confident in themselves.  This year, God finally opened my eyes to a type of mission that I never considered - being a missionary teacher.

The Instituto Católico Bilingüe "Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz" has offered me to opportunity to be an English teacher for students in grades 7, 8, and 9.  As a math teacher, teaching english is something I never thought I would do.  But I truly believe that God is calling me to Honduras, so I know he will provided me with the skills I need to succeed.  I am so excited to be embarking on this journey and I hope you enjoy my blog about my experience!

So here we go! When Math goes English :)
